Course description: Graphics In Motion class. Laney Fall 2012 Drawing traditional animation has been going on world-wide for over 112 years and is still as popular today as ever!! It is experiencing a revival and fresh vitality in movies by Miyazaki, Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks (have you noticed the hand-drawn scenes in their films?), plus it is as strong as ever in TV commercials and in TV series on Nickelodeon & Cartoon Network. Colleges teach drawing animation first, and then students go on to other types of animation, such as CGI in Maya on the computer, if they choose. Many students today want to continue drawing animation; they love it. It is easier, faster, & more fun to draw animation first!
This course is an exciting introduction to animation for anyone. Learning how to animate can be enjoyable and not hard like you may think! You will first learn how to draw from the beginning, so there’s no stress. You can’t lose by taking this class because everything you need to know about the fundamentals of animating is thoroughly covered. If you really want to learn how to animate, this is the class for you. It is a traditional drawing course and we use computer software, Digicel Flipbook, to create the motion pictures! Flipbook is used by most of the major animation studios, including Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks, and most of the top animation colleges. It is easy to learn and easy to use. The teacher has been using Flipbook for 20 years for commercial use and teaching it to college students, too.
Once you learn the fundamentals of animating like the pros, you can apply these principles to any type of animation; drawing, stop motion, cut-outs, photographs, or computer models, all types of animation use the same principles of motion!
